A Show in the Rain

It is a Saturday, a rare day for me to embrace. Invited to a show which neither patrons I know showed themselves, I still stayed for the art. Arriving whilst the band prepared, their faces held a complexion of melancholy. Of course, preparation is the most boring part of one's endeavor. With their instruments aligned, sound check was a pleasure for an observer like myself. Their demeanors have swapped to those looking forward to what will come. They spoke no words, no introduction, just the beginning of a beautiful sound which only a practiced band can produce. Their synchronicity is something I am unfamiliar with. This small venue, The Allies Pub, is tiny compared to the talent this band brings. They, the YAHMO Band, have prepared expertly. Their volume is neither too loud nor too quiet. The music began as if they were a vacuum; playing for themselves and their own love of a beautiful melody. Their guitarist Yahmo, has a touch of Hendrix in his heart. His fingers flow up and down the frets as a man making love to his soul mate. The bassist Emery, lays a foundation stronger than a pillar. The deep reverberation sets a tone the rest follow. Their drummer Edward builds unto it, only strengthening and expanding that foundation. Every song was perfect. The distorted audio and the expression of strings and tightened acrylic was sublime. It is moments like those that I wish I knew more of music and its history. To have the ability to provide a proper comparison of the musicians that came before, and the new beauty which is being cultivated. The rain pours down on Chico. It touches all that exist here. Talent in Chico is the same as the rain; everywhere you look you will find it. It is only those rare moments where all comes together and you discover true beauty. Like rain on a beautiful night with a perfect light; the YAHMO Band is one of those true beauties. A group to watch and cherish. They will go far. As the magnificent deserve.
